Any of you who know me, know that I'm not really a holiday person and can actually be quite curmudgeonly at times.
Got a call from the talented Mikey Ratt early in the day saying he was heading to Coby's Swapmeet and asking if I wanted to roll.
Coby's is always a blast and even more fun with Mikey. ADVENTURE!
Mikey came up on some rad exotica vinyl, some crazy ski masks and hipped me to this rad Mexican coconut candy. Thanks buddy.
On the way in I stumbled across this killer leather suitcase. As I'd just gotten there, I told the guy I would take chances and look around the swapmeet first and hopefully the bag would still be there when I was on the way out.
Sure as shit it was there on the way out. $25 !!!
When I got home home I had a package waiting for me.
Dirty Boogie and RATS CAVE are Hong Kong's homes of Rock-N-Roll Rebel culture.
Unlike Japan Hong Kong is not known for it's music scene, let alone rockabilly or any bike/hot-rod scene, but these guys are doing it.
In the 80's there was a small Rockabilly/Teds scene in HK but that has long since dissipated.
Folks in Europe, The States and Japan might think this is no big deal, but if you have ever spent time in or lived in Hong Kong you would know how important shops like Dirty Boogie and Rats Cave are for Hong Kong.
These guys are building bikes, painting, silkscreening, starting bands, building a rad scene from the ground up.
From Zero if you will.
Thanks King !
Later in the evening, I got a strange knocking on my door.
When I answered the door BAM! The Huggin's family of 5 & A DIME were standing there with a killer Singer industrial machine.
I have to say, over the years the Huggins clan has really been like family to me.
They've looked after me and helped me get my shit together more than once.
Anywhoo ... Before I get too sappy. THANKS HUGGINS FAMILY!!! YOU RULE!!!
