Fifty years ago today, four black students from NC Agricultural & Technical College sat down at a segregated Woolworths lunch counter. Soon after, a wave of sit-ins spread throughout Southern cities and towns, organized and led by high school and college students. This upsurge led to the founding of SNCC.
