09-27-08 Case File: HEAD PHONE ...

I've had this 1940's Bakelite phone sitting around for a while in hopes of making a headphone monitor out of it.
Finally got around to it today.
Had a broken Stanton headphone around and some spare time.
•Had to pull out all the "guts" of the phone.
•After pulling the stanton headphone apart, I realized that the diameter of the space that accommodated the earpiece of the phone was not wide enough to accommodate the headphone driver.(Holy Run-On Sentance)  
Dremmel tool to the rescue. BE CAREFUL KIDDIES! Bakelite is HIGHLY TOXIC. Last thing anyone needs to do is inhale a bunch of toxic black dust.
•Some rewiring and soldering ... HOORAY! Head-Phone.

09-17-08 Case File: WED. MORNING JAZZ...

Rahsaan Roland Kirk from the film "Sound".
I've always been amazed by Roland Kirks uncanny ability to play 3 saxes simultaneously.


Dexter Gordon's "Tanya" from perhaps my all time favorite Jazz recording/album "One Flight Up"


"Darn that Dream". Another Track from "One Flight Up".


"Blues for brother George Jackson" by Archie Shepp. Perhaps Shepp's most publicly recognized album as many folks have sampled and covered several of the songs.
My Father, McKinley Moore and Mr.Shepp spent a lot of time together while teaching at UMASS at Amherst in the late 60's into the early 70's. ( Is that considered Name Dropping ?) 
This album was a tribute to the prisoners who were killed during the Attica State Prison uprising.
The Track below is a tribute to George Jackson,  a young Black Panther leader who was gunned down in the yard of San Quentin Prison in 1971. (The same Year as the Uprising at Attica)
